the industry strikes back!

Earlier this year, Electric sekki proudly partnered up with 10 of Hong Kong's most inspirational creatives for our annual Les Artistes initiative. We worked with talented upcoming Hong Kong photographer, Dicky Manana, to shoot 10 bright young things who work closely with the fashion industry. The bright colours, prints and textiles of 2012 inspired a comic-book style Industry Strikes Back! photo shoot and video, where each artist involved was depicted as a superhero sent to save the world for the darkness of bordom and ennui.

It was an honor to work with so many talented, cool people, all working together on this fantastic creative endeavor. Hong Kong is most often referred to as a financial paradise, filled with commercial opportunities and financial gain, but it's also full of wonderfully creative-driven people who are striving for innovation and pushing the boundaries of our imaginations each day. This breezy glitter spot embellished halter-neck dress from sass & bide is victorious in more ways than one.  Not only does the dress look positively victorious on 4th And Bleeker blogger-come-model/photographer/stylist Alexandra Spencer, it's also called the 'Meaning of Victory' dress, too.  These photos of Alexandra in the woods of Boston are so sublime we almost don't believe they're real; with Alexandra's otherworldly nymph-like features, the mystical glow of the forrest, and the ethereal drapery of the dress, these photos are victorious in every sense of the word.

les artistes two: the industry strikes back!

Tomorrow evening, we'll be celebrating our Les Artistes II: The Industry Strikes Back! project in style; our annual Les Artistes project is a celebration of upcoming creative talent in Asia.  It is our way of showing support and appreciation for those warriors who are fighting to keep innovation and courage alive in the Asian creative scene.  This year, we're presenting ten artistes who we see as creative superheros: The Crawford Crew, Super Stylist, The IT Hunter, The Sound Warriors, Shadow Ninja, Kaptain Konzepp and Style Fighter.  Can you guess who each of them are?  We'll be revealing their identities each day next week.  Make sure to check in and find out!

It's the end of August and that means the end of summer is nearing... and you know what that means?  That's right, it means wearing everything quintessentially 'summer' while you still can.  For us, one of our mandatory summer staples is undoubtedly cut-off denim.  Sure, some people love it so much they even wear tights underneath and pass them off as winter-wear in cooler months.  But, seriously, it just doesn't look as good, and you know it.  So embrace this warm weather while we still have it and wear those cut-offs while you still can!  And, in case you're wondering, our absolute favourites come courtesy of One Teaspoon and ksubi, but you probably already knew that.

Just as in New York, Paris, London and Milan, Hong Kong also has its own set of supermodels, and at the very top of that set is modeling veteran, Ana Rivera.  This half-Korean/half-Puerto Rican beauty has been modelling all over the world for over a decade and she's still very much at the top of her game.  As one of Hong Kong's most in-demand models, she's become a celebrity in her own right.  We had the pleasure of  working with her on a shoot recently and, not only is her beauty otherworldly, she's also got a wicked sense of humour, an astute degree of professionalism and an incredibly kind personality.  Here she is looking gorgeous in items from TELA, (nude), Stylestalker, Something Else by Natalie Wood, Peter Som and sass & bide.

You already know how much we're digging the metallic trend this season, so it should come as no surprise to you that we're obsessed with these holographic pants from Chalayan.  Sure, they're not for the faint hearted, but if you've got the confidence (and the bod) to pull them off, then, seriously, we're begging you to please do it!  If we saw some hot chick rocking these on the street, that would seriously make our year.  Need some inspiration to get you moving?  Here's supermodel Miranda Kerr rocking the Chalayan hologram pants in Vogue Turkey and So You Think You Can Dance? blonde bombshell Cat Deeley wearing them at the Teen Choice Awards.  They've even popped up in the windows of Harvey Nichols in London.  What did we tell you -- these pants are so major!

Think pastel pinks are just for little girls and wannabe princesses?  Think again.  Pastel pink had a complete makeover and is fast becoming a new fashion favourite -- we even think it's a best bet for the season.  The colour is flattering on all skin tones and instantly gives you a feminine edge.  Taiwan superstar, Joe Chen 陳喬恩, recently chose a baby pink dress from Twenty8Twelve for a photoshoot; with its figure-hugging cut and its modern neckline, this pink dress is feminine-chic without being girlie sickly-sweet.  Take a chance, try something different, and introduce some pastel pink into your wardrobe this season.

We were backstage at the Chalayan Fall/Winter 2012 'Domisilent' show at Paris Fashion Week earlier this year in March; we even took you with us on a backstage video tour (which you can see here).  One of our favourite fashion websites, Dazed Digital, was there as well, and they managed to get some fantastic snaps.  Seeing all these great images of the intricate details on the clothes, the sumptuous shapes, the gorgeous hair and, of course, top models like Hanne Gabby Odiele, Diaine Conterato and Maria Bradley, is making us relive the excitement all over again.  Jealous much?  Relive it with us -- check out the backstage atmosphere below and watch the video again here.

gangnam style

PSY is set to have the biggest musical comeback Korea's ever seen, due to his viral music video to hit tune Gangnam Style.  Thanks to YouTube, PSY's fame has increased exponentially--having posted his hilarious Gangnam Style on the video sharing platform, he's garnered almost 30 million views in the one month it's been online.  Gangnam Style refers to an affluent area of Korea called Gangnam, and the song is all about a luxurious lifestyle.  So what's the big deal about PSY?  Well, first of all, he's funny as hell, he's got killer dance-moves and, finally, he's got a unique fashion style that he embraces wholeheartedly.  So it's obvious why we're so crazy about him.  And we fell for him even more when we saw his 'love interest' in the video dressed in a House of Holland 'Bingo Ball' sweater -- I think it's safe to say that we're in love!
