cindiddy ♥'s electric sekki

When the team headed down to New Zealand Fashion Week, we were happy to see our incredibly friend, blogger Cindy Ko of Cindiddy, there as well!  And sporting an array of wares from Electric sekki, too!  With her enviable long legs and recently lightened bleach blonde locks, Cindy would look good in anything, really, but she truly stunned the photographers in D.EFECT, Nanushka, No. 21 by Alessandra Dell'Acqua, TELA, sass & bide.  Cindy's style has always been straight-forward and easy to understand, but always impeccably chic, which is one of the reasons why we love her look so much.  And it's safe to say that everyone in New Zealand loves her look, too--she was constantly being hounded by photographers.  Check out how Cindy wears these gorgeous pieces below and learn from the best!

style jam: high-stitched voice

For her second look in our Style Jam with blogger High-Stitched Voice, Stephanie Huang again gravitated towards our rack of colourful, printed Minkpink pieces.  She chose this gorgeous high-neck swing dress with a fitted bodice and we have to say the dress simply fits her like a glove.  It's as if it was made for her.  The dress' colourful design perfectly complements Stephanie's incredibly lovely disposition.  She topped the look off with No. 21 by Alessandro Dell'Acqua's must-have bag of the season in a delicious mustard yellow.  The yellow of the bag brings out the subtle yellow tones of the flowers in the dress.  An expertly-style mix of both 'high' and 'low' fashion, if we do say so ourselves!  Bravo, Stephanie--we love this look!

style jam: high-stitched voice

We first discovered Stephanie Huang of High-Stitched Voice just over a year ago and she immediately struck us as one of the most stylish young upcoming bloggers that China currently has to offer.  Can you believe this girl has only just started college?  She's got buckets of style for a young kid her age, hasn't she!  So when she contacted Electric sekki, keen to drop by and say hi, we were ecstatic!  And, thus, this incredible Style Jam session came about.  Like many girls her age, Stephanie was immediately drawn to our irresistible rack of Minkpink, which was exploding with prints and colours.  She made a beeline for this red plaid pinafore, a throwback to the punk movement of the 90's, and grabbed an oversized coat to layer on top of it, a la Saint Laurent's Fall/Winter 2013 collection.  Never one to shy away from going bold, Stephanie then coordinated her look with a red floppy felt hat from D.EFECT and No. 21 by Alessandro Dell'Acqua's break-out star of a bag, the 'Bad Belle'.  If there was ever a girl who could work the whole 'Lady in Red' look, it's Stephanie--and she does it with such great style!  We can't wait to have you back over to play dress-up again, Stephanie!

style jam: lauren engel

Photographer Lauren Engel has a keen eye for what's cool on the streets.  Unlike many photographers working in Hong Kong, she's not obsessed with the luxury sector and all of its logo-branded merchandise.  Instead, she's keen on photographing cool, urban pieces in cool, urban locations.  Now, that's our kind of girl!  For our first Style Jam with a photographer, Lauren Engel shot Rachel Hammett in a wardrobe of Minkpink, Stylestalker, One Teaspoon, House of Holland and Superga in a series of colourful settings around Hong Kong.  Her undone, spontaneous approach to photography, coupled with her eye for colour and attitude are what made this Style Jam so unique.  We can't wait to see what else this talented young photographer comes up with next!  She's definitely one to watch!

superwowomg x lauren engel

We here at Electric sekki have always been a huge fan of SUPERWOWOMG's downtown cool-girl style and we were especially happy to hear that she was teaming up with bright young photographer, Lauren Engel, on a mini photo shoot earlier this month.  Lauren's unique photographs are definitely inspired by her Instagram-obsessed generation; they have a spontaneity about them, are vibrant and have a look that resembles a vintage-filter effect that Instagram might try to emulate.  In her photo shoot, SUPERWOWOMG selected a range of pieces from Electric sekki that scream her style: a fun sheer chevron-print top from Minkpink, a pair of perfectly tailored baby pink pants by No. 21 by Alessandro Dell'Acqua and a downtown-cool printed silk bomber from TELA.  Check out the results of their shoot below--and, as always, we can't wait to see what else both SUPERWOWOMG and Lauren Engel come up with in the future!

style jam: print-on-print

"Today, I just had some fun with it, you know?  The looks I put together are mix between my personal style and the way I would style a shoot, as well.  There are things that I did in this shoot that I might not necessarily do, like wearing head-to-toe matching print, but after seeing it today on camera, I might do it  one day.  It was kind of like a cool little test to see what I can try, eventually, if I was outside on the street just every day.  It was cool having fun with those brands and just playing around with it.  My favorite pieces were the ksubi printed tee and shorts--the combo together.  I loved the tee and seeing the shorts today was awesome, so now I want to buy them both!"

Carlo goes all-out in ksubi.

Carlo wears a ksubi tee, ksubi printed denim shorts and a ksubi denim coat.

style jam: the 90's

"My personal style and styling work, I think, is quite different.  There's always a bit of me in each shoot, regardless - I can't really help it, it's my signature - but, for my personal style, I can't really go as crazy as what I would do for a shoot.  You can go as creative and silly and stupid as you want in a photo shoot, actually, but the way that I do it is I always put myself in it.  I always think, 'If I was living this concept, if I was in that world, how would I do it?  How would I push it further?'  My personal style, though is toned down.  You can't really walk around wearing such crazy things all day, every day.  There's definitely a time and a place for it.  I have special pieces that I will wear occasionally, but that's what keeps them special, I guess."

Carlo wears a ksubi shirt, ksubi denim jacket and ksubi printed jeans.

Carlo wears a pair of iconic House of Holland sunglasses.

A close-up look of these printed ksubi jeans.

Carlo's always been a master of layering.  He expertly mixes this exaggerated-length shirt under a shorter denim jacket.

The washed-out eagle detail on this classic ksubi denim jacket channels 90's era fashion style, of which Carlo is a big fan.

"My style is more of a high-street thing.  I've always had a real street influence and a sort of a 90's thing  going on, growing up in the 90's.  I never let it go!  That's always stuck with me and, with the timing now, as well, with everyone digging the whole 90's thing, it's awesome for me!  I can just continue to dress the way I do, but it's given me years of practice, as well.  I've definitely got a real street vibe, but I try to keep it chic at the same time.  I'm not doing anything too avant-garde; I'm not wearing skirts or anything like that.  I still love my high-end designers, as well, so I try to incorporate the two."

style jam: juan-carlos aquino

In our first male-only Style Jam, we had the pleasure of working with the very stylish and incredibly cool Juan Carlos-Aquino.  As a buyer for concept store Konzepp and a freelance stylist, Carlo has a killer unique style of his own that really sets him apart from others in Hong Kong.  His keen eye for fashion and (somewhat) daily outfit choices are all chronicled on his blog, Pronounced [Stahyl]., but be warned: it's an addictive blog that will suck you in and keep you clicking "Older Posts" for hours!  Every time we see this guy, he's always got something really special and interesting going on that we've rarely seen worn by his male peers.  Carlo's got a really specific eye for what he likes, what he wants and what suits him well.  In this three-part Style Jam series, Carlo puts together a trio of looks from the showroom and tells us a little bit about his personal style ethos.

Carlo wears an Insight 51 shirt, ksubi denim shorts and a ksubi sweatshirt over his shoulders, his own sneakers, beanie and jeans.

"I do the buying for Konzepp, which is a lifestyle space focusing on different unique designs and things that aren't so readily available in Hong Kong; it's a platform for designers and upcoming artists to show their work.  For me, it goes hand-in-hand with styling, being a buyer, because you really always have to be on top of your trends and it's all about knowing your market.  The only challenge with the job is to find those new brands!  You have no idea where to begin, because the idea is, 'How do you find a brand that no one knows exists and you can't yet find it in Hong Kong?'  How?  By sitting on the internet for a very long time.  Going through blogs, magazines, everything.  Even things like, if I see something on somebody that I've never seen before walking by, I'll actually go up to them and find out where they got it from. 9 times out of 10 it's not in Hong Kong, so it's a really good way for me to find out about new brands."

"With the brands that we've come across, there has been a lot that I have really loved.  This isn't a recent brand that I've found and it's actually one that I've been following a lot, since when I was in Australia, but it's still not available here and now we're picking it up; it's called Wood Wood.  It should be coming in within the next week.  Both men and women.  Something like that is something that I've always been really supportive of."

We love the contrast between these punk-inspired faded cross print denim shorts from ksubi and the slightly bohemian beach-bum floral print of this Insight 51 shirt.

The view from behind: just as great as the view from the front!

valentine's style jam

In celebration of Valentine's Day this year, Electric sekki hosted a very special Valentine's Style Jam session with Fashion Hedonism's Christing Chang and Hungry Hong Kong's Daniel Haddad.  We got them to style one another and then asked them the truth about how they feel about each others' fashion and style.

Tell us how you met.
I went to an all-girl's school and Dan went to an all-boy's school; our best friends started dating and we met through them.

What are you doing for Valentine's Day?
We're thinking maybe a beach barbecue or something at sunset with flowers and candles.  We go out to eat so often because of Dan's blog, so it's nice to do something that will be just us alone.

Christing wears a One Teaspoon jacket, sass & bide tee, One Teaspoon shorts and a House of Holland clutch.

Dan, what was Christing's style like when you first met her?
Dan: It was pretty similar.  Bohemian.  Probably even more bohemian.  And she wore a lot of pink!
Christing: Yeah, I was more girly back then.  I really liked that Sienna Miller boho thing that was going on then, and I was living in Notting Hill; I wore lots of maxi skirts and big belts when we first met.

Do you think Christing's style has been influenced by you at all, Dan?
Dan: No, definitely not!
Christing:  No, you like me to wear tight dresses!
Dan: Oh yeah!  There was a stage when there were loads of body-con dreses.
Christing: Yeah, there was that period when Herve Leger was really popular.
Dan: Yeah!
Christing: Dan loves Herve Leger.  That's his thing.
Dan: When we used to go shopping, I used to pick out the tightest dresses for Christing!
Christing: I like to wear really loose tops and separates, but he likes really tight dresses.
Dan: But I like it when she dresses casually, too.
Christing: He likes things that are tight around my waist.  I tend to dress really baggy up top and things aren't that tight around my waist, so he'll tell me to belt it in.

Why did you style Christing the way you did today, Dan?
I could just instantly tell!

Dan wears a ksubi tee, jeans, jacket and sunglasses.

Christing, describe Dan's style when you first met him.
He wore a lot of shirts, a lot of printed shirts and baggy jeans--sagged down baggy jeans with sneakers.  But not in a hipster way whatsoever; in a very literal way!  It didn't really have any fashion voice to it at all.

What do you like to see Dan in the most?
I don't really like to see him super dressed up.  I'm not a girl who likes a guy in suits and a tie anyway.  I like it when he wears combat boots instead of sneakers and a skinny pair of jeans.  Maybe a jacket with it.  Also accessories.  He doesn't really make that much of an effort, he takes five minutes to get dressed usually, but I like it if he wears a scarf or a beanie or accessorise a little bit more to add some style to the outfit.

Do you think that you have influenced Dan's style over the years?
Basically, I decided to change it!  No, not really; I knew he liked to wear sneaks, jeans and shirts, so I basically just took the whole East London look and put that into his style.  Instead of just the most random sneaker, I said, "You should wear Nike Dunks," because comfort is really important to him, but it's still really stylish.  I got his jeans slightly skinnier and more stylish printed tees and plaid shirts instead of his normal weird printed shirts with loads of really weird writing.  He's from Brighton, so it was just a little but, you know, chavvy!

Why did you style Dan the way you did today, Christing?
I really like the skinny jeans and I like the army green colour.  Dan likes printed tees so the ksubi suits him really well.
