Sometimes, when you live in a city like Hong Kong, it's easy to get caught up in the everyday work buzz and forget about how magnificent this city really is.  Well, photographer Asa Li never seems to have forgotten it.  For his video, Homeland, Asa spent six months taking time-lapse photographs in various hotspots around Hong Kong, capturing the city's vivacious energy and glorious skyline.  All things aside, if we just stop for a moment to admire the beauty of Hong Kong's aesthetics, you can tell, immediately, that this is a town full of unstoppable, driven and inspiring people.  So here's to our magnificent city and to all the amazing citizens who make it our home.

a new foundation

style mavens

Taylor Tomasi Hill, current Moda Operandi Artistic Director and ex-Marie Claire Style & Accessories Director, could be called the Queen of Street Style. Her mane of bright red hair is instantly recognizable, and her lithe, long limbs make for a great form on which runway pieces can be shown off. She’s also undeniably sweet and friendly. You’d be hard pressed to find someone whose knowledge of and experience in the fashion industry surpasses her own. She was recently in town to launch a capsule collection that she created with Lane Crawford; her first attempt at designing clothes herself. The result is a selection of gorgeous, chic and (given her penchant for more complicated runway pieces) surprisingly wearable. Two of our favourite #HKFashionBlogger buddies, Cindiddy and SuperWowOMG were lucky enough to attend an intimate dinner with Taylor and the Lane Crawford team. Here’s what these style mavens wore…

seekerstate

Circles played a big role in sass & bide's Spring 2012 collection, Seekerstate; they were present in polka dot prints on a whole slew of pieces that were sent down the runway, and now they've popped up in balloon form in their lookbook.  Polka dots are making a definite comeback this year and the sass & bide girls, of course, gave the print their own signature twist, mixing it with other textiles such as sequins, silks and mesh netting.  The concept of the circle is reiterated in the balloons used in their lookbook; a large, bulbous prop that looks much like a globe.  And that's the whole idea behind Seekerstate, isn't it?  It's a collection tailor-made for today's wanderlust-er.  That dreamy, audacious girl who refuses to be tied down, forever wandering the world for new and exciting adventures.

When the weather is grey and gloomy outside, it's a natural instinct to reach for something dark, boring and cosy to wear in the morning.  It's hard to feel inspired to dress up in our nicest duds when it's pouring buckets outside.  I get it, I get it.  But sometimes I'll come across an immaculately dressed woman or that it-girl who just oozes cool, dressed to the nines with an umbrella in hand, skipping gracefully across the crosswalk, avoiding puddles without a care in the world.  These are ladies that are truly dedicated to style; even in depressing weather, they are a ray of sunshine - a rainbow, perhaps - amongst the gloomy skies.  Take a few cues from these ladies below and amp up your rainy-day style.

british invasion

Late last year, The British Fashion Council brought over a group of emerging British designers to Hong Kong as part of their London Show Rooms initiative.  London Show Rooms is one of the British Fashion Council's most crucial projects; providing a hand-selected exclusive group of UK-based designers with moral support, commercial expertise, and creative encouragement.  This was the first time that The British Fashion Council held an event in Asia, and it was about time they did!  Hong Kong is seen by many as the gateway to China, and the Far East's booming economy is gradually playing a lager role in these young designers' future success.  The event was a wonderful celebration of British creative talent, thanks to the combined partnership of Angelica Cheung and her team at Vogue China, as well as British Fashion Council Ambassador and Vogue.com contributor Sarah Mower.  Electric sekki was there with HKHQ.tv to capture the event on film.  Check out what when down, along with exclusive interviews with all the key people involved.  We can't wait until London Show Rooms travels to China this year!

little red dress

Red is perhaps the most auspicious colour in Chinese culture, and it is a particular favourite hue to be worn on the first day of the New Year.  The colour red mostly symbolises good fortune and happiness.  And, well, who doesn't want to be happy?  Rachel from the hugely popular That's Chic personal style blog has possibly found the perfect Little Red Dress in this crochet number from One Teaspoon.  Often, people buy up lots of red pieces to wear on the first day of the New Year, and then those pieces get relegated to the back of our closets, but this One Teaspoon dress is a definite keeper to take you through spring picnics, summers on the beach, and autumn trips to your local cafe.  Love it!

cheers to spring

Work doesn't always have to be boring. When you work at a creative company such as Electric sekki, work is, well, fun most of the time. Why? Because we spend the bulk of the day working with fabulous people. So we thought it would be nice to throw them a quiet little cocktail party to show our appreciation for their support. The folks that show up at our parties always blow our socks off with their unique style.
