style jam: modern dressing

This is the first time we're sad to be writing a post, as this is the final set of photos from our fantastically fun Style Jam styling session with Tania & Sam.  You must check out their blogs; they are fabulous reads, full of personal anecdotes and styling tips and both girls write with a voice that is so friendly and relatable.  I like to think of this final set of photos as an essay on two ways of modern dressing.  One is to mix textures à la Sam, who pairs a leather and mesh Horace biker jacket with a silk top and eyelet scalloped-hem shorts; the other is to play with layers and cultural-references à la Tania, who wore a reinterpreted Japanese kimono jacket with a printed skirt, layered over a silk romper.  For us, one of the most greatest things about fashion has always been a sense of unexpectedness; those mind-blowingly inspirational outfits that stylish people such as Tania & Sam put together that make you go, "Brilliant.  Why didn't I ever think of that?"

style jam: all about the body

Part III of our Style Jam with Tania & Sam: the girls inadvertently chose two outfits that scream totally different things about the body.  Both looks also manage to be super-sexy yet also tactfully restrained.  Sam chose a burgeoning trend, the maxi skirt, and ingeniously paired it with a bandeau bikini top; she covered up with a killer vest from Ksubi that the girls were fighting over down until the very last minute.  Tania looks bangin' in her body-con sass & bide minidress, but its high neckline keeps it from going over the line into that too-sexy category, and the shirtless denim vest she dresses the look down with definitely adds a splash of "it girl" flair.  So, ladies: there's no excuse!  Whether you're flat-chested or big-breasted, stick-thin or voluptuous, tall or petite, there's always a way to work it!  Remember to keep having fun and experimenting and you'll eventually find your innate personal style.

style jam: tea party

In this second instalment of our recent Style Jam styling session with Tania & Sam, we're picking up somewhat of a tea party theme--definitely not your average tea party, however!  Tania wrote about how she feels like a modern-day Marie Antoinette in her outfit, and Sam looks the perfect picture of a stylish young lady off to a posh get-together with her closest girlfriends.  Definitely a tea party that we'd like to be a part of! Can we tag along, girls?

style jam: electric!

As you may already know, two weekends ago, we spent a lovely sunny Saturday running around an empty warehouse space in Wong Chuk Hang with a pair of super-stylish ladies, Tania from T Like Bubble Tea and Sam from Sam Is Home.  We had a major styling session; four looks each for a total of eight.  It's every girl's dream to be able to raid a fashion closet, and that's exactly what we did!  I think both Tania and Sam both took the opportunity to dress up in something a little bit more adventurous than usual; I applaud them for being so outgoing and creative!  This is just part one in our four-part series, so make sure to keep checking back throughout the week to see more!  Also make sure to check out their fabulous blogs: highlights include a piece on how to layer in the summer heat and a beautiful account of a weekend jaunt to Lisboa.

the right light

In our interview with Carmen Chan & HKHQtv we discover the reasons behind why Carmen decided to start her blog, How I Met Your Style; we find out what it is about shooting on film that she finds so captivating; and we learn that, for Carmen, anything shot in the right light can be made to look beautiful. electric sekki x himys

A couple weeks ago, when Hong Kong was experiencing the highest temperatures since 1980,  we had the pleasure of inviting the wonderfully talented photographer Carmen Chan into our showroom.  A passion of Carmen's is capturing gorgeous, stylish women in their homes for her blog, How I Met Your Style; her shots often evoke an atmosphere of fairytale wonders and dreamlike sunlight.  Her portraits are intimate and hauntingly beautiful.  We spent a wonderful day shooting in our sun-filled showroom, introducing her to all the unique wonders scattered about the space.  The result?  A set of romantic images capturing the very essence of Electric sekki at this electrifying point in time; intrigued, inspired and unstoppable.

a 'de gournay weekend' in shanghai

Last weekend, our fabulous marketing manager, Sam, went on a weekend getaway to Shanghai.  Shanghai is an amazingly diverse and 'happening' place at the moment; a gorgeous city that merges old French architecture alongside crazy buildings that look like spaceships.  Sam stayed in the Mansion Hotel which is gorgeous and has a very interesting history behind it: it was once owned by Sun Ting Sun, who was a partner of the infamous Shanghai gangster, Du Yue Sheng.  Scattered throughout the hotel are beautiful old pieces of rosewood furniture, sepia photographs from the 1950's and an undeniable spiritual feeling of the history of the place.

The reason for Sam's visit was to celebrate de Gournay's first anniversary in Shanghai.  If you don't already know, de Gournay creates stunning hand-painted wallpapers and fabrics, drawing inspiration from organic flora and fauna, as well as art deco influences.  Their beautiful work has been featured all over the pages of VOGUE, has been used in Matthew Williamson's London boutique as well as Bergdorf Goodman's, and was even featured as the backdrop to Chanel's new Coco Mademoiselle campaign.  Hit up their website to see more of their breathtakingly beautiful workmanship.

a match made in heaven

Seriously, people! Does it get any better than this? Kate Bosworth & Richard Nicoll are a definite match made in heaven.  Bosworth looks ever much the part of the gorgeous California blonde in this flourescent pink dress, straight off the runway from Nicoll's Resort '12 collection.  I feel like this colour was specially invented for Kate because she looks so phenomenal in it! Nicoll's Resort '12 collection is full of his most beloved signature styles; can't wait until next spring when they hit stores!

Christing from Fashion Hedonism is hot, hott, hottt!  She's got the trifecta of greatness: great legs, great style and great hair.  Here at Electric sekki, we ♥ how she always manages to look both comfortable and sexy at the same time, we ♥ the bohemian accents in all her outfits and we ♥ her indulgent 'hedonistic' live-life-to-the-fullest approach to everything she does!  Honestly, she looks amazing in anything she wears, but we think she looks best in One Teaspoon shorts.  Here's a small taste of the greatness that is her blog.  Keep it up, girl!
