models-off-duty ♥ Jas MB

We love a good street-style shot of a model-off-duty; lately, we've been most inspired by the set of rising Chinese supermodels, including the likes of Shu Pei, Du Juan, Feifei Sun, Liu Wen, Ming Xi ... the list goes on!  Shu Pei is considered somewhat of a veteran by now, having fronted two major campaigns for Lane Crawford, including their latest FW '11 campaign, which also featured newcomer Ming Xi.  That's not the only thing they have in common: both girls have mad love for their Jas MB bags.  Shu Pei's dressed-down sophistication is paired perfectly with the metallic gray hobo-style she carried, while Ming Xi's young grungier aesthetic goes so, so well with the vintage rucksack style she chose.  A++ for both!

the swank unveiling

One of our favourite ultra-luxe stores in Asia, The Swank, is unveiling their new concept store space in Harbour City this evening.  We can't wait to see what the retail giant has to offer; with labels like Balmain, Barbara Bui and (nude) on offer, we're certain that their new space in TST will be stellar! Oh, and, of course, we always love a good fashion show.  The Swank is our go-to boutique whenever we're looking for a killer outfit and have lots (and I mean lots) of dough to spend.  Make sure to check out their new space soon, trust us: it's so stellar it will blow your mind.  See you there, fashionistas!

ksubi x I.T: the video

If you were one of the poor souls who missed the Ksubi boys while they were n town, fear not: you can now relive their visit through a video chronicling their shenanigans in Hong Kong!  We started out with a Jean Machine exhibit and Der Face eyewear retrospective at I.T Hysan One, and then we rounded things off with a massive Sex & Fashion party at Volar.  Get in on all the action below!

pink is punk

Last Friday night saw Lane Crawford lab's Pink is Punk party at 10 Chancery Lane's Chaiwan art warehouse.  Lane Crawford lab is a collaboration between the retail juggernaut and famed Milanese Art Director, Marcelon Burlon.  Burlon has hosted numerous reincarnations of his Pink is Punk party all over the world, and the one he hosted last week in Hong Kong was definitely a night to remember.  Burlon premiered a video he directed titled "Symphony of Hong Kong" at the party, featuring a dozen or so of Hong Kong's coolest people; young creatives such as stylists, musicians and bloggers featured in the video, including two of our favourites from our Les Artistes shoot, Cindy Ko of Cindiddy and Jack Leung of The Yours.  The video will soon be up on the Lane Crawford website; make sure to check it out when you get the chance, but in the meantime here are some snappy-snaps from the party!

Marcelo graced the stage as DJ for the earlier part of the evening.

Another favourite from our Les Artistes,  Jack Leung, performed with his band The Yours to close out the evening.  Jack also featured in 'The Symphony of Hong Kong'.

ken done x natalie wood

We already know how much you all love Natalie Wood's clothing line, Something Else by Natalie Wood--well, you're about to love her even more.  Natalie's recently paired up with iconic Australian artist, Ken Done, to create a series of exclusive prints for her fashion label.  Ken Done is famous for his colourful, cheerful depictions of Australian landmarks, but he also had a stint in the '80s as a fashion designer, creating ever-so-popular printed tees and bathing suits.  We love how Done has translated his colourful artwork into a more modern form for his collaboration with Natalie; the prints are a bit more abstract but, in true Ken Done style, they're done with an undeniable sense of joy and a fantastic burst of bright colours.  You're sure to treasure these items forever; just as Natalie still treasures her own printed Ken Done pieces from the '80s.  The collection hits stores this December, we'll be first in line!

Uma Wang, Qiu Hao, Pari Chen, Alex Wang, Vega Zaishi Wang, Xander Zhou, Keevan Zhai and Zhang Na are just a handful of the exceptional new design talent originating from China today.  As China expands beyond a country focused primarily on industry and development and starts to nurture creativity such as fashion design, architecture, art and even molecular gastronomy, we are starting to see a unique creative voice that is inherently and unabashedly Chinese.  Their designs are often inspired by Chinese shapes and traditions, but their overseas education has allowed them to fuse references from their homeland with international influences, making their designs thoroughly exciting and original.  Surface Asia, one of our favourite bimonthly magazines, recently ran an extensive expose on eight up-and-coming fashion designers in China today; what Surface found was a group of young creatives with a fierce dedication to their craft, a deep appreciation for new technology and textiles, and an infallible desire to make their mark on the fashion industry.

It's safe to say that Fashion Toast's Rumi Neely pretty much kick-started the whole denim cut-offs trend, way back in 2007 when she first started her blog.  Long before she shot to international fashion stardom, she was just another cool girl living in California, and denim cut-offs were an integral part of her everyday wardrobe.  As her fan-base grew so did the number of denim cut-offs we started seeing on the streets.  Once relegated to the backs of our wardrobes as a questionable fashion choice, Rumi swept in and gave denim cut-offs a new lease on life; quite frankly, the "denim cut-offs and a white shirt" combo has become somewhat of a uniform or "go-to" outfit for cool girls across the globe.  While Rumi tends to have veered away from them in recent years, it's clear that she still has mad love for her trusty Ksubi's, which she recently pulled out at Day #1 of New York Fashion week, looking fresh and cool as ever.

kruger ♥s no. 21

Diane Kruger is everything you want a modern woman to be; beautiful, intelligent, cultured, stylish.  We've long been fans of the former model's impeccable style; she always looks elegant but edgy at the same time.  For a recent premier of her new film, Pied Nus Sur Les Limaces, she chose this stunning pink lace finale gown from No. 21 by Alessandro Dell'Acqua's Fall 2011 collection.  She looks every bit the gorgeous Hollywood actress, and the dramatic back of this stunning dress gives Diane's style that little hint of unexpectedness that we all know and love.

ksubi x richard nicoll sunnies

If you're like us and couldn't wait to get a close-up look at those Ksubi sunnies debuting on Richard Nicoll's Spring 2012 runway, then look no further: they're here!  Cool new eyewear is one of the most important things that we look out for at the start of each Spring and these babies certainly do not disappoint!  Ksubi and Nicoll have collaborated several times in the past and we've loved all of their previous pieces, so we're so happy to see this fruitful relationship continuing next summer.  The styles below are such perfect modern interpretations of the quintessential wayfarer and cat-eye shapes; we love how Ksubi and Nicoll updated these classics with metallic silver accents.  They're set for release in March 2012; we'll be first in line, see you there!
