November 2012 will be Matthew Miller's first trip to Hong Kong with the British Fashion Council's London Show Rooms initiative.  After taking part in London's first menswear exclusive runway season, MAN, in September 2011, Matthew Miller's profile skyrocketed due to his strong men's aesthetic and unique fashion point-of-view.  Mr. Miller is a designer that designs with purpose; "Design without content has no authenticity," he pronounces.  And, thus, each collection is stems from a deep ideology which Mr. Miller expresses through his designs.  For Spring 2013, Matthew Miller explored the idea of utilitarianism and surveillance; many of his pieces featured utilitarian hook detailing and one two-piece suit was printed with a mishmash of CC-TV footage.  Though his concepts might sound complicated, his approach to tailoring isn't; Miller translates these complex ideas into thoroughly wearable, unique pieces with clean lines and classic silhouettes.

Lee Roach is an English-born designer based in London and the LEE ROACH brand was established immediately upon Lee graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2010.  With solid experience working with both heritage British Saville Row tailors such as Kilgour and Peter Saville, as well as with contemporary designer Meadham Kirchoff, Lee developed an aesthetic that combines traditional distinctive menswear elements with a new refined minimalism.  LEE ROACH aims to produce non-restrictive menswear; garments that are sophisticated in their process of reduction, eliminating all superfluous components.  This is the first time LEE ROACH is travelling with the British Fashion Council's London Show Rooms initiative to Hong Kong and we're excited to see Asia's reaction to Lee's refreshing take on British menswear.

E. Tautz is a quintessentially British house with a rich Saville Row history.  Recently, the house hired Patrick Grant to oversee the label's transition into today's modern fashion industry.  When E. Tautz travelled to Hong Kong for last year's London Show Rooms event, the collection that was introduced to Asia was one that was filled with British classics, cut in an updated style.  For Spring 2013, however, Mr. Grant has taken E. Tautz much further into the future, introducing a collection filled with bright pinks, canary yellows, cerulean blues, short suits and even (gasp) T-shirts!  It was a big leap for E. Tautz, but one that was achieved successfully by referring to the late great British explorer, Sir Wilfred Thesiger, as muse. Using this British figurehead as a major source of inspiration for the brand ensured that the label remained true to the heritage of its country, while simultaneously allowing Mr. Grant the opportunity to take the house full-force into the future.  We can't wait to see this exciting new E. Tautz collection in Hong Kong next month!

Roksanda Ilincic is a consistent designer--each season, there are a couple design elements that we can expect from her in her collections; namely, colour-blocking and volume.  Her Spring/Summer 2013 collection was the same, but she applied these house signatures in an entirely different narrative story.  For spring, Roksanda explored England's Northern Soul movement; a period in the 60's and 70's defined by the upbeat tempo of American soul music.  Ilincic's silhouettes were generally long and never cut too closely to the body.  That's another one of her signatures; she never reveals too much skin.  She also drew inspiration from Josef Albers' colour experimentation work, which Ilincic described as, "rigid, masculine and precise."  Roksanda's graphic approach to colour-blocking here was done with absolute precision and rigidity.  Roksanda Ilincic was a huge hit at London Show Rooms Hong Kong 2011, and we're sure she's set to be a favourite again this year.

Having been trained at Sir John Cass School, one of London's premier art and design institutions, Dominic Jones then quickly went on to launch his debut collection, "Tooth and Nail" in 2009, which was instantaneously lauded by the reigning queen of fashion, Vogue's Anna Wintour.  Since then, Dominic has won The British Fashion Council's New Gen Award five times and was been named Jewelry Designer of the Year by ELLE UK in 2011.  Clearly, this guy's got talent.  His designs often merge high-end techniques and materials with an edgy, urban aesthetic.  Fans of his wares include celebrities Rihanna and Florence Welch, as well as London style icons such as Cara Delevigne and Clara Paget.  His most recent collection for Spring/Summer 2013 features serpents, claws, animal skulls and daggers--fit for an exotic modern warrior princess.  We're looking forward to trying everything on at London Show Rooms Hong Kong 2012!

In our first menswear installment of introducing The British Fashion Council's London Show Rooms Hong Kong 2012 participants, we bring you upcoming London label, Agi & Sam.  This duo are a force to be reckoned with, having both trained under Alexander McQueen in developing prints and perfecting the label's impeccable tailoring.  Since then, Agi Mdumulla and Sam Cotton have teamed up to form Agi & Sam, a label that seamlessly merges their expertise in creating unique custom prints and in cutting perfectly tailored garments.  Their recent Spring/Summer 2013 menswear collection is a throwback to the retro 70's era, created with a modern touch; faded floral prints are paired with contrast sleeves, leathers and bright pops of colour.  This successful collection has already been picked up by London's leading conceptual department store, Liberty, and we can't wait to see these pieces in Hong Kong next month!

When The British Fashion Council's London Show Rooms initiative travelled to Asia - and, more specifically, Hong Kong - for the first time last year, the city was abuzz with excitement.  Well, we're happy to announce that the travelling showroom will be visiting Hong Kong again this year in November.  In case you missed out on the action last year, have a peek at the official video here.  We'll be announcing the full London Show Rooms 2012 line-up of designers through brief profiles with accompanying reviews of their Spring 2013 collections each day in the lead-up to this exciting event.  First up: Jonathan Saunders.  As one of the original pioneer of prints in British fashion, Mr. Saunders took an interesting turn this season: his collection was almost entirely devoid of prints, aside from two very stripped back prints in the form of classic stripes and graphic fish scales.  In their place, Saunders played with colour, form and texture, introducing lots of metallics, bare midriffs, pencil skirts, colour-blocking and sequins.  We're looking forward to seeing this collection in person, on the racks at London Show Rooms Hong Kong 2012!
