go-to outfit

It's safe to say that Fashion Toast's Rumi Neely pretty much kick-started the whole denim cut-offs trend, way back in 2007 when she first started her blog.  Long before she shot to international fashion stardom, she was just another cool girl living in California, and denim cut-offs were an integral part of her everyday wardrobe.  As her fan-base grew so did the number of denim cut-offs we started seeing on the streets.  Once relegated to the backs of our wardrobes as a questionable fashion choice, Rumi swept in and gave denim cut-offs a new lease on life; quite frankly, the "denim cut-offs and a white shirt" combo has become somewhat of a uniform or "go-to" outfit for cool girls across the globe.  While Rumi tends to have veered away from them in recent years, it's clear that she still has mad love for her trusty Ksubi's, which she recently pulled out at Day #1 of New York Fashion week, looking fresh and cool as ever.

bambi, bam!

The world's gone crazy for Bambi.  Supermodel, style-icon and hot girlfriend of Ksubi's Dan Single, Bambi Northwood-Blythe has been taking the fashion world by storm.  She's reached cult-status on the internet and is a fashion blogger's ultimate dream.  With her thick eyebrows, willowy limbs and cutesy-but-cool Bambi tattoo on her inner-wrist, she's won the hearts of thousands of fans worldwide.  So it makes sense that Ksubi would choose her as their "calendar girl"for August 2011, the hottest month of the year.  Can you say MAJOR girl crush?  Bambi, we love you!

insight at the sugarmill

The boys from INSIGHT Garage Art recently went down to one of favourite Australian surf-shops, The Sugarmill, to for a serious art jamming session.  In true INSIGHT-style, the day was laid-back, fun and the art they created was wickedly cool.  Check out the video for a behind-the-scenes look at what went down that day; makes us want to leave our computers, pick up an easel and some paintbrushes and just get to painting all day. Wouldn't that be rad!

spice up your life

Seriously, ladies: summer ain't gonna last forever, so savour these last few months and embrace colour!  Please people, no more boring black, nana navy or grieving grey; we want to see some canary yellow, scarlet red, plumy purple and bright fluorescents!  The time is now.  Honestly, get your girlfriends together and try to recreate the photographs below.  I mean, how great would it be to see a posse of bright women such as these walking down the streets?  Don't even try to tell me that wouldn't brighten up your day.

horace in vice style

Vice Style is a great online fashion site with a wonderful team of editors who are dedicated to educating their audience on up-and-coming fashion news; it's not just about reporting on big names and perpetuating current trends.  They recently featured an amazing editorial surrounding UK brand, HORACE.  HORACE has been getting a lot of amazing press recently, but we really love this piece in particular because it really captures the essence of the brand; it is subversive, creative, in-your-face and eye catching, with a no-apologies approach to fashion.  Love it!

spotted on: ksubi judy

Creative consultant, mother, blogger, designer--Judy Ip is all these things and she's also one helluva stylish lady.  Her fashion style is quintessential cool Hong Kong, what the locals would call, "ho ying ar!" Translation: "Too cool!"  She's the mother of two totally adorable and fashionable babies, she consults for local fashion powerhouse, izzue, and maintains a popular blog, Style Life.  She also has a total weakness for Ksubi shades.  Throughout her blogging career, we've seen her go from one Ksubi shape to the next; her current favourite (a personal favourite of ours, too) is the pair below, which she wears almost every day.  Ksubi + Judy, we think it's a perfect combo!

great kate!

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge recently attended a very posh polo match in Santa Barbara, California.  The Duchess looked radiant in a beautiful Jenny Packham day dress made from hand-painted de Gournay silk.  We've written about de Gournay once before; their gorgeous organic and art deco inspired work is created by highly-skilled artisans, who have honed their handicraft through years of experience.  de Gournay is not new to designer collaborations; they have worked with British designer Matthew Williamsom in the past and, more recently, Chanel.  Jenny Packham's latest collection of modern feminine pieces featured many different gorgeous de Gournay hand-painted fabrics.  See some of the highlights below!

style jam: modern dressing

This is the first time we're sad to be writing a post, as this is the final set of photos from our fantastically fun Style Jam styling session with Tania & Sam.  You must check out their blogs; they are fabulous reads, full of personal anecdotes and styling tips and both girls write with a voice that is so friendly and relatable.  I like to think of this final set of photos as an essay on two ways of modern dressing.  One is to mix textures Ã  la Sam, who pairs a leather and mesh Horace biker jacket with a silk top and eyelet scalloped-hem shorts; the other is to play with layers and cultural-references Ã  la Tania, who wore a reinterpreted Japanese kimono jacket with a printed skirt, layered over a silk romper.  For us, one of the most greatest things about fashion has always been a sense of unexpectedness; those mind-blowingly inspirational outfits that stylish people such as Tania & Sam put together that make you go, "Brilliant.  Why didn't I ever think of that?"

style jam: all about the body

Part III of our Style Jam with Tania & Sam: the girls inadvertently chose two outfits that scream totally different things about the body.  Both looks also manage to be super-sexy yet also tactfully restrained.  Sam chose a burgeoning trend, the maxi skirt, and ingeniously paired it with a bandeau bikini top; she covered up with a killer vest from Ksubi that the girls were fighting over down until the very last minute.  Tania looks bangin' in her body-con sass & bide minidress, but its high neckline keeps it from going over the line into that too-sexy category, and the shirtless denim vest she dresses the look down with definitely adds a splash of "it girl" flair.  So, ladies: there's no excuse!  Whether you're flat-chested or big-breasted, stick-thin or voluptuous, tall or petite, there's always a way to work it!  Remember to keep having fun and experimenting and you'll eventually find your innate personal style.

Sam wears a Ksubi denim & leather vest and sunnies, INSIGHT bandeau bikini top, sass & bide necklace, One Teaspoon maxi skirt.

How to: bear your midriff without looking like you belong in a harem.

How to: work that statement piece of jewellery.

Tania wears a sass & bide dress, Ksubi sunnies and sleeveless shirt (in hand), Lucy Hutchings black leather cuff and leather bracelets.

Fashion should be fun.  Don't take yourself too seriously!  Have a good time, and maybe even invite a friend over for a major styling session.  Love it!

style jam: tea party

In this second instalment of our recent Style Jam styling session with Tania & Sam, we're picking up somewhat of a tea party theme--definitely not your average tea party, however!  Tania wrote about how she feels like a modern-day Marie Antoinette in her outfit, and Sam looks the perfect picture of a stylish young lady off to a posh get-together with her closest girlfriends.  Definitely a tea party that we'd like to be a part of! Can we tag along, girls?

Tania wears a sass & bide jacket, Twenty8Twelve tee & shorts, Lucy Hutchings leather bracelets & her own jewellery.

Loving the deatiling on the back of this gorgeous N. 21 by Alessandro Dell'Acqua silk shirt.  Looks like a delicious cupcake!

Party in the back!

style jam: electric!

As you may already know, two weekends ago, we spent a lovely sunny Saturday running around an empty warehouse space in Wong Chuk Hang with a pair of super-stylish ladies, Tania from T Like Bubble Tea and Sam from Sam Is Home.  We had a major styling session; four looks each for a total of eight.  It's every girl's dream to be able to raid a fashion closet, and that's exactly what we did!  I think both Tania and Sam both took the opportunity to dress up in something a little bit more adventurous than usual; I applaud them for being so outgoing and creative!  This is just part one in our four-part series, so make sure to keep checking back throughout the week to see more!  Also make sure to check out their fabulous blogs: highlights include a piece on how to layer in the summer heat and a beautiful account of a weekend jaunt to Lisboa.

Tania wears Ksubi sunnies, a tribal neckpiece by sass & bide and a singlet from Something Else by Natalie Wood.

Sam wears a One Teaspoon kimono and leather shorts, Ksubi sunnies and a Something Else by Natalie Wood singlet.

We all agreed that One Teaspoon kimonos are perfect for twirling!

Love the dreamy sunlight.
