superga x the blonde salad

Following on from the huge success of Superga's first collaboration with top fashion blogger, The Blonde Salad, the mighty duo have returned for a second consecutive season together this fall with a selection of three brand new styles.  The shoes were designed in collaboration between the popular Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad and the Italian heritage sneaker brand, Superga; together, they came up with the inspiration of working with interesting fabrics to give a stylish twist to Superga's classic 2750 and 2790 styles.  Using leopard print and camouflage on foal hair, the 2750 is updated with a fashionable edge, while the 2790 4cm flatform was recreated in a faux crocodile leather to create a trendy take on this much-loved Superga style.  As part of the campaign to promote the collaboration, Superga tapped none other than Chiara Ferragni to be the face of the collection; she's seen wearing each style in her own stylish way while be photographed all over an urban city.  If you're looking for ways in which to wear these shoes, then the way that Chiara styled them in the campaign should be a great source of inspiration for you.  She is so on-point with her styling.  We can't wait to get our hands on these!

Chiara Ferragni The Blonde Salad wears the leopard foal hair 2750 style from her Superga collaboration on her blog.

From top to bottom: Superga 2790 4cm flatform in faux crocodile, 2750 in leaopard foal hair, 2750 in camouflage foal hair.

barney cheng for superga

When we invited famed Hong Kong couturier, Barney Cheng, to take part in our Superga DIY series back in April this year, everyone went wild for the pair he designed.  At the time, unfortunately, the shoes were not available for sale but now we're pleased to announce an official collaboration between the two design powerhouses, the Barney Cheng for Superga limited edition capsule collection.  While Barney's original design was done in white, the capsule collection also offers the shoes up in both red and black.  There are 150 pairs available in total, 50 in each colour, so this is a very special and extremely limited collaboration.  The design features the same crocodile embossed faux leather detachable 'apron' created to give the Superga sneakers a classic English loafer-style look.  “The design targets to offer a subtle luxurious touch and fashionable edge to the classic Superga silhouette. The juxtaposition of the faux leather element and the casual style of Superga allow for a unique spin to any outfit, making them a perfect everyday shoe, as well as a great option for different semi-formal occasions,” said Barney Cheng of his creation.  And here's another reason why you've got to get your hands on these shoes: a $100 donation will be made to the Crossroads Foundation for every pair sold.  Fashion for a cause?  What's better than that!

Barney Cheng for Superga is available at the Superga Hong Kong flagship in HarbourCity.

electric sekki talks: jonathan jay lee

Electric sekki had a chat to breakout comic artist, Jonathan Jay Lee, about his recent 'Super Superga Girls' collaboration with Italian sneaker giant, Superga.  For such a young guy, he's got a whole lot of talent and wisdom under that youthful exterior.  Just like so many of us, Jonathan also grew up in the 90's watching Saturday morning cartoons such as Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles--and that's where he developed his love of comics and cartoons.  From there, Jonathan has managed to develop his love of illustration into a professional career path, having worked with Marvel Comics, Harvey Nichols, Red Bull and now Superga, to name just a few names from his impressive client list. We chatted to Jonathan about his love of comics and cartoons, where he finds his inspiration and, of course, which of his Super Superga Girls is his favourite.

Tell us a little bit about your approach to comic illustration and how it's different from other comic artists out there.
I like to think that my approach is similar to that of indie comic creators, where the artist imposes their own storytelling voice. Whereas the big publishers that do superhero books have a particular 'look' or type of storytelling, independent creators are like the auteur film directors of the comic world who get to employ their own visual vocabulary. You'll get genres where everything feels the same, and I don't want to be in that category.

What were some of your favourite comics/cartoons growing up?
I grew up on Saturday morning cartoons in the early 90's, so Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all the way! I was also a huge fan of almost anything Warner Bro.'s, such as Bugs Bunny and Road Runner, and Hanna Barbera's Tom and Jerry.

What do you love the most about your job?
Everything! Even the frustration, anxiety and uncertainty of each new project, and the sleepless nights. That moment when my blood gets pumping about a project and then it's all that I can think about. And the satisfaction of overcoming a difficult task, and looking at a finished piece and thinking "I can't believe I made this!"

How did your collaboration with Superga happen?
I was referred by Chris Keith over at hk2stroke when Superga was getting a Vespa from him for the store. Met the cool people at Electric sekki about their ideas, and developed the concept together with them after creating a few samples of the Superga girls.

How did you find the inspiration for each of your 'Super Superga Girls' characters?
I started by thinking about if someone wore Superga's, starting with the 2750's, what would this someone be like, and then went from there. It ended up that all these girls have a real attitude, which attributes to their choice of Superga styles. I'm sure other people have this experience, but when I am drawing a character's face or expression, I find myself making the same face while I'm drawing them. I'm pretty sure I was making the Zoolander face the whole time!

Do you have a favourite 'Super Superga Girl'? Why her?
I love Antonia, because she looks like a total bitch. It must be because I feel such a strong emotion towards her that I like her the most. I also like Wei-Lin, her kind of cute elegance makes me want to take care of her forever.

get them shades

A great pair of shades is the icing on top of any outfit, be it a killer outfit or an off-duty look.  And when it comes to cool shades, we never look further than ksubi, who offer hands down the best shades in any town.  Favoured among the fashion set around the world and often snapped by street-style photographers at fashion weeks each season, ksubi shades are always eye-catching and flattering for the face.  They're statement without being outlandish, making them perfect for regular old you and me, too.  Even better is that all their styles are unisex, so go halfsies with your boyfriend on a pair and share--though we have to admit, it might be difficult because once you get your hands on a pair of these babies, trust us: you won't want to share!

havaianas in shanghai

We had an incredible time at our Havaianas Beach Party Extravaganza in Shanghai at The Bund Beach this weekend with a party filled with Brazilian dancers, fun games, a live performance by pop-rock girl band Nylon Pink and, of course, a fully-equipped Make Your Own Havaianas booth!  It was hands down the best way to get through the heatwave in Shanghai this past weekend.  We partied into the night in our bikinis and Havaianas with over 760 of the coolest people in town, as MTV Taiwan's VJ Samuel revved up the crowd and got us all buzzing with excitement.  We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who came out to support us--the event was a huge success, thanks to our wonderful fans and friends!  We can't wait to come back to China for our next event!
