sass & bide resort 2014

After several seasons of presenting almost exclusively monochrome collections, the girls at sass & bide finally seem ready to inject a bit of colour back into their lives, but in a much more subdued way than they have in the past.  The angelic whites and deep blacks still played a major role in this collection, but sass & bide have introduced a dark bronze, pale teal anda splash of bright orange for Resort 2014.  All of their signatures are there, too: the tribal embellishments, the asymmetric hemlines, the sexy peekaboo cutaways.  And, of course, it wouldn't be a sass & bide look book without some seriously lust worth art direction; from the first look shown with a pair of dramatic angel wings to the oversized elephant tusks and dismembered ice-cream cones in between, each shot was more inspiring than the next.  As for the collection, sometimes it can be difficult to see yourself wearing a full sass & bide outfit every day of the week - the piece often make such bold statements that can be hard to pull off each day - but this season was different; the collection was slightly more varied than in the past as the girls showed not only their signature mind blowing-ly gorgeous gowns and cocktail dresses, but also a selection of jackets, shorts tops and jeans that we could see ourselves wearing every day.  They're moving beyond showmanship and onto more wearability -- now that's a movement we can get behind.

chalayan resort 2014

Until now, Hussein Chalayan has been designing two separate collections each season: his Chalayan line of runway pieces and his Chalayan Grey line of more affordable pieces.  This season, however, that all changes as he merges the two into just one - Chalayan - where he is offering up everything from entry-price to middle-price to luxury price-point pieces.  His girl can now get a little bit of everything, all under one name.  And his Resort 2014 collection reflected that shift in sensibility.  Here, you can find everything from chic separates to luxe dresses to statement coats to basic tops--all done in Chalayan's trademark aesthetic.  Chalayan is still exploring his regular themes of metamorphosis and movement here, he is still utilizing cutting-edge techniques and pushing himself to explore new frontiers of his design process; he is now further challenging himself to do it cohesively at different price points in one collection.  And what more could you expect from such a revolutionary designer, than the idea of revolutionizing the fashion industry itself!
