throw me a bone!

In another one of Lane Crawford's lab initiatives, the team brought downtown-cool duo, rag & bone, over to Hong Kong to unveil their D.I.Y. project in Asia.  rag & bone started their D.I.Y. series a couple seasons ago; the idea of it is to gift several quintessentially rag & bone pieces to models, actors and creatives and get them to photograph themselves in rag & bone, without any professional lighting, make-up, hair or photoshopping.  I am a huge fan of this new initiative; it feels organic, real and is all about how to make rag & bone your own.  For the first time this season, rag & bone's David Neville and Marcus Wainwright teamed up with a group eight Asian bloggers, stylists, creatives and celebrities for their D.I.Y. project.  They featured some of our personal favourites, including blogger Cindiddy and stylist Tina Leung.  To top it all off, one of our favourite photographers, Carmen Chan, acted as photographer for both Cindiddy and Kevin Poon.  Carmen photographs for the project are gorgeous with a hint of humour and levity; just how we like it.

rag & bone's must-have item of the season!  According to Sarah Rutson, Lane Crawford ordered 25 pieces of this patch-work leather coat with shearling sleeves and coattails and they flew off the shelves,  selling out at lightening speed.  Lucky for us, they placed a re-order!

sequin graffiti

I love discovering new forms of street art; a while ago, we told you about the new yarn bombing street phenomenon lead by Knitta, Please.  Recently, we've come across Therese Himmer, who is slowly taking Scandinavia by storm with what she's dubbed "sequin graffiti".   This Danish/Czech artist is bringing bling to a whole new level and we love it!  Imagine driving through the cold gray streets of Reykjavik, Iceland and suddenly coming across a gleaming, glittering wall of giant sequins!  Boom, that would definitely make your day.  In many ways, street art is the most accessible form of public art, because we live around it every day.  In recent years, street art has really taken off from its initial graffiti roots and expanded into a whole new creative subculture; a breeding ground for exciting new artistic talent.  We can't wait to see what Himmer's got in store for us next.  Watch this space!

Electric sekki is proud to announce its partnership with the charity Angels for Orphans in their publication of EDEN.  EDEN is a wonderful coffee table book filled with inspiring images and notes from notable personalities such as Jimmy Choo; the proceeds from sales go toward funding Angels for Orphans, a charity that aims to improve children's lives worldwide.  Their belief is that to the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world; there is something so beautiful in the simplicity of this truth.  Every little bit counts, so if you're keen to become an angel to orphans around the world, then pick up an copy of EDEN; it's for a fantastic cause and the gorgeous imagery and wise words within it will also bring you many hours of joy.  Angels bring peace to this world with love and caring; as Jimmy Choo himself says in a handwritten note in the book, "Love and peace go hand in hand, you can't have one without the other."

spotted: judy in twenty8twelve

We've written about this triple threat before: as a creative consultant, mother and blogger, Judy Ip is the epitome of the modern woman.  It also helps that she's got incredibly cool style and is the perfect stylist to her two adorable toddlers.  Judy recently chose this printed silk dress from Twenty8Twelve for an afternoon play date with her children; we love how she styled this dress so unexpectedly with gray argyle tights, flat lace-ups and retro shades.  She's definitely given this dress her own personal stylish twist!  Let's also just pause in appreciation of how phenomenally cute her babies are, love them!

cara in no. 21

This post features two things we love: our favourite face, Cara Grogan, and our favourite charity Angels for Orphans.  Electric sekki sponsored Angels for Orphans' charity event last Thursday, providing Cara with a gorgeous eye-catching green S/S '12 No. 21 by Alessandro Dell'Acqua dress.  Cara did a fabulous job emceeing the event; she looks amazing in green, and we especially love the unique back of this dress, which features a peekaboo sliver of gorgeous lace.  Angels for Orphans provides care and aid to children who have been orphaned and are struggling to get by on their own.  With the help of Electric sekki, Angels for Orphans has managed to publish EDEN, a coffee table book whose proceeds are donated towards funding the charity.  It's a fantastic book and purchasing a copy of it is for a fantastic cause, so hurry on down to The Feel Good Factor (2/F Winsome House, 73 Wyndham Street, Central) or Nude Is Rude (G/F, 7 Lan Kwai Fong, Central) to pick up a copy now!

les artistes profile: dj eve speciall

Ready for a party?  Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Eve Speciall is a new DJ and model who's coming up fast in the Hong Kong fashion and music scene.  With her signature shock of platinum hair, you can catch Eve behind the decks as a resident DJ at Fly or at one of the many fashion events on offer in Hong Kong.  Formerly a hip-hop dancer, Eve's DJ style is influenced by the mixtape culture of the 1990's; her song  selection is a party-ready mix up of banging 80's nuwave pop to current hip-hop.  Her involvement in fashion, music and the arts have combined to make this unique and exciting DJ one to watch in Hong Kong.

It's also Eve's birthday today, so if you see this gorgeous girl on the streets, make sure to give her a huge birthday shout-out!  From the whole team at Electric sekki: happy birthday, Eve!

les artistes profile: the armoury's alan see

Alan See is the co-founder of our favourite classic menswear hangout in Hong Kong, The Armoury: a wonderfully designed space in Pedder Building featuring high ceilings, rosewood fixtures, and even a double bookshelf, complete with a rolling wooden ladder to reach the top.  The Armoury aims to inject a bit of colour into the sea of black and charcoal suits of Hong Kong, and to help gentlemen build their wardrobes with timeless pieces.  They're also a supporter of small artisans from around the world who are focused on their craft; they regularly make personal appearances at The Armoury, so make sure to pop by some time to ravel in all their gorgeous classic menswear pieces and have a chat to some of these skilled craftsmen.  Our personal favourites from our shoot with The Armoury?  Their classic British umbrellas in jewel tones with animal head fixtures.  Brilliant!

london show rooms: day two

Yesterday, Vogue China hosted an intimate afternoon tea celebrating the British Fashion Council's London Show Rooms presentation in Hong Kong with local celebrities, socialites, media and retailers.  Vogue China Editor-in-Cheif, Angelica Cheung, was kind enough to stop for a quick chat with us; it was clear from our conversation with her that this inimitable taste-making woman firmly supports British fashion and rising young designers in general.  This year, she is cooperating with Anna Wintour from American Vogue in a designer-swap where a rising American designer swaps cities with a rising Chinese  designer for a month, to get a better idea of one another's markets.  Angelica hopes to create a similar initiative for British fashion.  As the leading fashion authority in Asia today, Angelica's support is crucial in securing both media and retail success for rising fashion talent in the booming Asian region.  Electric sekki has always and will continue to do the same for many years to come!

london show rooms: day one

Day one of the British Fashion Council's London Show Rooms presentation in Hong Kong was a huge success. Vogue.com's Sarah Mower hosted a delightful brunch affair, during which the city's well-heeled crowd turned up in style to fawn over this group of talented British-based designers and their S/S '12 collections. As they say, pictures speak a thousand words, so instead of bombarding you with an endless soliloquy on the events of the day, I'll let these beautiful photographs do the talking. Before we part, however, today we're lucky enough to be organising Vogue China's afternoon tea in celebration of London Show Rooms' first presentation in China, so make sure you're following us on both Twitter and Instagram to catch all the lastest updates throughout the afternoon.

Mary Katrantzou's whimsical, eye-catching digital prints were a huge winner. In particular, guests were drawn to her mixed-media pieces; printed skirts embellished with sequins, beaded biker jackets, dresses made from plastic.

Peter Pilotto's digital prints and experiments with volume were a crowd favourite. We saw many a discerning fashionista trying on Pilotto's pieces with huge smiles on their faces.

Marios Schwab's mesh and Swiss lace pieces were just the right amount of sexy, without being too obvious. The silhouettes were to die for and we heard an inordinate amount of ooh-ing and ahh-ing over his figure-flattering shapes.

Todd Lynn's draped silks and figure-hugging knits were a huge hit. Comments from the guests: eye-catching, urban and cool, but still completely wearable.

Roksanda Ilincic offered something for everyone in her S/S '12 collection; muted colours, bright fuchsias, sleek shapes, voluminous shapes, tailoring and fluidity. It was a gorgeous examination of fit, form and colour. Divine.

Jonathan Saunders' biggest hits were his printed pieces in muted pastel hues. One nude/white dress in particular instigated a million wishful thoughts, shooting right to the top of a dozen Wish Lists.

Vogue.com editor Sarah Mower was the special guest of the day; we were honored to have been in her company for the afternoon. Sarah is a woman of extreme grace and poise, style and intellect. She is also fiercely supportive of British design talent. We have so much admiration for this marvelous woman!

E. Tautz designer, Patrick Grant, is not only incredibly charming and handsome, he is also a phenomenally talented menswear designer. E. Tautz pays particular attention to craft, using Saville Row techniques to construct beautifully tailored pieces in modern fabrics.

We were also lucky enough to be presented with three of the British Fashion Council's New Generation designers: David Koma, Louise Gray and Holly Fulton. Their designs are colourful, whimsical and experimental. Looking at their pieces can't help but make you smile.

Nicholas Kirkwood is a footwear genius. We heard more than one comparison of Kirkwood to a sculptor throughout the day. We love the colours he's used for S/S '12 in particular.
