golden girls

2013's Golden Globes aired yesterday and, while we're not entirely sure who won what, we're very much caught-up on the whole red carpet situation.  Now, red carpets tend to be all about playing it safe and looking as glamourous as humanly possible but, honestly, it can sometimes be a bore.  And yes, while there were some looks that were rather predictable and 'safe', there were others that really stood out and wowed us, too.  Here are some of our top picks from the evening.

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen.  This honeybee-inspired collection looked incredible on the runway and we love how it's translated on the red-carpet on Nicole Kidman.  A bold choice from her amidst the sea of sugary Marchesa on the young 20-something generation.

Another Alexander McQueen masterpiece, this time on Kate Hudson.  For some people, the gilded high neckline might be a bit much, but we think it looks divine on Kate.  It's got that retro-vibe while still remaining utterly modern.

Michelle Dockery in Alexnadre Vauthier.  Firstly, we have to admit we are huge Downton Abbey fans so perhaps we're being a bit biased here.  Nonetheless, we think Michelle really took a risk wit this one and that the risk definitely paid off.  The gilded gold embroidery and the pristine white look divine against her milky skin.

Co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in L'Wren Scott and Stella McCartney.  We have to say, in this case, Amy beats out Tina.  I mean, how hot does Amy look in this low-cut boy-meets-girl tuxedo pantsuit?  Tina looks lovely but errs on the safe side.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors.  Can you say bangin'?  Some starlets might have looked at this dress and thought, "Oh! Cut-outs.  No, I couldn't possible wear cut-outs on the red carpet."  Well, we're glad Emily didn't because she looks absolutely stellar in this gown.

Rachel Weisz in Louis Vuitton.  This look is classic Louis Vuitton.  It plays on the dichotomy between the 'good' girl and the bad.  It's perfectly ladylike and perfectly sexy at the same time.

Anne Hathaway in Chanel.  Maybe you're thinking, "Meh, so what.  Pretty, but nothing special."  Well, we disagree.  It's possibly largely to do with her short haircut, but we think the look is breathtaking and unexpected.  Afterall, they say you're never supposed to wear white on the red carpet...

Marion Cotillard in Dior Couture.  Jennifer Lawrence also showed up in Dior Couture and, as much as we love you Katniss, Marion beat you out on this one.  While Jennifer's dress was too tight and too dramatic, Marion's looks relaxed, simple and incredibly chic.  And we're pretty sure she was the only one to rock orange on the red carpet...ever.

Kristen Wiig in Michael Kors.  Who knew Kristen was such a babe?  But for god's sake, honey, stand up straight!
